Silver Orb weaver

Argiope argentata

Description:

One of my best photos, a wonderful orb weaver hanging out in a window.

Habitat:

Hot habitats

Notes:

A really peaceful spider, it was so immobile that I thought it was dead, so I touched one of it's leg and run away faster as possible.

I would just call this one: Silver Argiope. This is the commonly accepted (see EOL link) name for Argentata. It is certainly an orb weaver spider and you might call it writing spider or garden spider (since you mostly find it in gardens). Personally I never have heard about your common name. I think it is in Florida as well a Silver Argiope. BTW, check the Wiki link, there you see where all these names came from. I NEVER had seen such a bulk of latin/scientific synonyms before!
