Meleagris gallopavo
Spotted Ambury regional park. Male has blue and red naked skin on head and neck with the upper and under parts black faintly barred diagonally with white and the breast has loose black feathers that hang like a beard. The female has blue naked skin on the face with the upper parts and under parts black but paler tha the male bird. Size is approx 1200mm.
Farmland and open country areas.
Family: Phasianidae. Nest is a bowl in grasses and low vegetation. Up to 15 cream, brown blotched eggs are laid.
