Yellow-legged Gull (juvenile)

Description:

These pictures of Yellow-legged Gulls in flight show the wingspan of this large bird (120-140 cm.) In juvenile and first winter birds the legs are pink and not yet yellow, and the plumage is spotted.

Habitat:

Spotted on large central European lake. The distribution of this bird has expanded both along the Atlantic coast and into central Europe.

Notes:

Larus michahellis was formerly treated as a subspecies of either the Caspian Gull L. cachinnans, or more broadly as a subspecies of the Herring Gull L. argentatus.
