Black Noctuid

Neumichtis nigerrima

Description:

A furry brown moth about 20mm long. The wings had dark brown markings, some deep grey patches and a single white patch on each wing about two-thirds along the costal margin nearer the apex. The outer margin of the fore-wings were scalloped. Thorax had thick brown furry scales. Could not see the antennae. Mouth parts also not visible. Some banding on legs.

Habitat:

spotted inside home - northerly winds/warm night.

Notes:

a beautiful dark noctuid. Larvae feed on a variety of plant species including beets, potato, turnips, clover and grass-this moth is therefore regarded as a pest. This species was spotted over several warm nights inside the house. My thanks to argybee for assistance with the ID !
