Rump and lower back are blue tinged with green; upper tail coverts green; undertail coverts green broadly edged with scarlet. Central tail feathers dark green; outer tail feathers blue-green, tipped pink. Throat and chest dull green with red tinge on upper throat. Belly and lower breast scarlet. Eye pale yellow. Heavily timbered mountain ranges and rainforests from Atherton Tableland south to eastern and southern Victoria. Enjoying a pick off the Mulberry Tree, in my backyard. Other trees around are:- Jacaranda and Narrow-leaf Bottletree.
Contact call in flight is a shrill crassak-crassak, repeated often. Utters a piping whistle whilst perching and , also, apparently in contact. As I live close to the Bunya Mountains, I get to enjoy the birds, when they visit my back yard. These photos have been edited. Reference comes from Reader's Digest Complete Book of Australian Birds.
