Swamp White Oak

Quercus bicolour

Description:

Found in nature, this tree is common to the Great Lakes St Lawrence regionot often growing with maples, American elm, Sycamore & Pin oak. It is similar to the White Oak but usually has more knots. The tree is only now just starting to change colour with less than 10% colour change.

Habitat:

Landscaped arboretum

Notes:

This photo was taken by museum staff during a culture days event . The fact that not much of the tree has changed colour may suggest that the leaf drop is still some time off.
