Cardinalis cardinalis
This male was trying to lead me away from his mate who was munching on some seeds at the Ala Wai Community Gardens, since she was ignoring his warning call. The northern cardinal's warning call is a very distinctive high pitched chirp. Many bird warning calls are high pitched which helps mask the direction from which it came. This was the first time I've been able to see the grayish blue feathers under their wings.
