Telostylus Neriid Fly

Telostylus sp.

Description:

Neriid flies from Telostylus genus. These were seen in the same area where a Telostylinus sp. was also spotted: http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/163.... Family Neriidae species are known as cactus flies, or banana stalk flies.

Habitat:

Backyard, spotted on a fallen banana stalk and surrounding weeds.

Notes:

According to zipcodezoo.com, there are 5 species in the Genus Telostylus distributed in the Philippines: T. binotatus (Bigot, 1859), T. maccus (Osten Sacekn, 1882), T. niger (Bezzi, 1914), T. philippinensis (Cresson, 1926), and T. vittatus.
