Water lilies

Nymphaeaceae

Description:

These are flowering plants that were abundant throughout the areas of the Okavango Delta in which I traveled. The flower that rises above the water generally blooms on a daily basis when in season. The plant's roots extend to the bottom of the marsh or river in which they are found. The leaves of these plants are mostly round.

Habitat:

Water lilies of some seventy different species inhabit virtually all temperate and tropical climates around the world.

Notes:

"Solitude in the Okavango" - These water lilies were seen while aboard a boat en route from Xaxaba Airfield to Moremi Crossing, our first bush camp on this photo safari.
