nictitating membrane?
So in my opinion the hen is just getting a nappie :-)
Is an eyelid, they are whitey :-) Their eye lids move from the bottom of the eye up, as opposed to our eyelids. They also have a membrane in between the eye and the eyelid that sometimes move up to protect the eye.
