Leaf beetle

Description:

This very small beetle looks like a leaf beetle maybe looking for acacia trees. A type I have not seen before, it was about 8mm long, and for some time I thought it might be damaged because it was just going around in small circles with apparently only one antenna and not enough legs. I have since been able to find sufficient legs and antennae to allay that fear.

Habitat:

This was found on the front of our car after driving about 15km through the outer eastern suburbs of Melbourne.

Notes:

Suspected Dicranosterna species which is an acacia leaf beetle. This is partly based upon behaviour characteristic of the family where, when threatened, they hide their legs and antennae. [Brisbane insects]

Automotive beetles are a bit larger

I was glad to find a new one too but also disappointed it was out of context making it harder to ID. (unless it's a new type of automotive beetle :)

Hey, its good to see a new one.
I've seen some similar about twice only but not this one.

I cannot match yours. (I think T sloane is larger)
This genus (T. sloane) followed our eucalyptus to the USA and there is an occasional post on PN from there.
