Red Shouldered Hawk

Buteo lineatus

Description:

I am guessing a red shouldered? Not sure, this is a first time visit for me and I don't remember any of the hawks with such dark eyes and an all brown head.

Habitat:

there is a huge farm and wooded area across the street from our house, I think I just have a good "buffet" for him/her due to all our feeders.

Very nice. I'm still waiting to see my first Red-shouldered Hawk.

Oh my God I am so excited, first because I actually identified it right and secondly I have been in search of getting a pic of this magnificent bird in my backyard for 2 years now...thank you both!

Beautiful Spotting MaryBethRees! I believe you are correct! This is an adult Red-shouldered Hawk. The juvenile birds have lighter almost yellow eyes and as they age their eye color turns to a dark brown!
