Swamp Metalmark

Calephelis muticum

Description:

Photo take in my backyard small beauty around 1.5 cm wingspan is one of the small metalmarks common in this area.Male with pointed forewing. Upperside of both sexes bright red-brown; dark median band not evident. Wing fringes lightly checkered.

Habitat:

Bogs, marshes, swamps, wet meadows.Populations in southern Michigan, southern Wisconsin, Ohio, Missouri, and northern Arkansas. Isolated populations in central Kentucky and eastern Iowa and south México.

Notes:

after send some photos from the same species of butterfly , I have a confirmation from the zoology department of the UNAM university in Mexico City and confirm is a Calephelis muticum and is possible to find in the south of México today.the reange of this butterfly only appear as, Populations in southern USA.
