Picture-Winged Fly

Delphinia picta

Description:

I didn't know they existed until a week or two ago, and now I've started noticing them everywhere. Funny how that happens, right? These flies have some of the ugliest snouts imaginable, but are otherwise a pretty interesting species.

Habitat:

Found perched on the low branches of a tall, mature tree. Had to stretch far to get the picture. It was getting late in the evening.
