Dasypus novemcinctus
This was a relatively young armadillo. Adult armadillos are about the size of a terrier dog, upperparts encased in a bony carapace with large shields on shoulders and rump and nine bands in between; front feet with four toes, middle two longest; hind foot five-toed, the middle three longest, all provided with large, strong claws; tail long, tapering and completely covered by bony rings; color brownish, the scattered hairs yellowish white. There are 30 or 32 peglike teeth.
LISDOLA (Lewisville Independent School District Outdoor Learning Area) is an eighty-acre tract of land located on the south side of Lake Lewisville Dam in Denton County. The landscape boasts wetlands, forests, fields, rivers and streams and contains approximately five miles of hiking trails. The outdoor learning area was created in the fall of 1999 when the school district erected two portable classrooms.

They seem to like areas with softer soils to hunt things like grubs, worms, and insects. Perhaps all the paving in cities is unattractive to them.
Cammie, I don't know if I ever answered you or not. I sometimes use my phone, and it doesn't show up here. I was probably between 8 and 12 feet as I recall.
Country* but in the city I haven't seen any :(
These are more common than I thought especially out in the coubtry
Oh how cute!!! We spotted one about this size just yesterday, but he was too shy to take any photos. How close did you get to this little guy?
