Mycalesis perseus
The Dingy Bushbrown or Common Bushbrown (Mycalesis perseus) is a species of satyrine butterfly found in South Asia and Southeast Asia. this is the Wet Season form.
Dark-brand Bush Brown, Mycalesis mineus? Key identification of this one from Dark Bush Brown is the "central disc spot in the hind wing is moved towards the termen (outer edge of the hind wing)"
thanks Agnes. It makes sense that they are the same, they just look so different to me!
Hi Pam, I replied to your other spotting. Also an M. perseus, nearing DSF.. I think.
thanks Jolly, and what about this one? Do you know?

thanks Agnes for all that work investigating Bush Browns. I still find them incredibly difficult to identify correctly.
e.g. http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/172...
M. perseus - On the hind wing only the three posterior ocelli in a straight line, the rest strongly curved outwards (Wikipedia).. M. mineus - posterior four ocelli, not three as in Mycalesis perseus, are in a straight line (Wikipedia)...
Pam, I think I found an identification key to differentiate between M. perseus and M. mineus. Pls see the last comment from this - http://www.flickr.com/photos/knkedlaya/4.... With this, your spotting is leaning towards M. perseus or Common Bushbrown.
Hi Pam.. to confuse you more, sorry... some pictures of Dingy Bushbrown or Common Bushbrown (Mycalesis perseus) also look like your spotting...
@nuwan, bayucca. Which of the bush browns is this? Mycalesis mineus macromalayana, Dark Brand Bush Brown?
