Great Mormon

Papilio memnon

Habitat:

Roadside stretch of dusty area, surrounding thick forests with lots of bushy undergrowth. Nearby stream used by drivers for vehicle washing. Hot region. Low altitude.

Notes:

This and other butterflies were frantically feeding on dirty mud by the side and inside a main road under the hot sun. There was no way of getting photos of these jewels other than falling flat on all four! Without hesitation I dived and managed some of these ground level side shots! By now being quite a senior doctor many zooming by in their vehicles seemed to recognise their doctor as I could see the shock on their faces! Thanks PN!
