Melinaea lilis imitata
This is one of the 4 Nymphalid mimics of Heliconidae (the Heliconoid Ticlear) that were collected on the same day in the same place. Nymphalidae: Ithomiinae: Melinaea lilies imitata. No Heliconid model species were seen.
Within the forest, flying among the trees and bushes, above the river zone. Tropical forest, dry season, Chorreadero Park, 10 km above Chiapa de Corzo, Chiapas, Mexico.
The 4 Nymphalid species collected on this day, all in the same are mimics of a Heliconid model, which was not seen. The other 3 species can be viewed: Complex 1: http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/165... Complex 2: http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/165... Complex 3: http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/161...
Thank you Argy Bee, great idea. I'll link them all as soon as Bayucca finishes his analysis. He thinks there are 3 species at least, and asked me to separate the individuals into separate spottings. Now he can be assured that each set of pictures is one individual. Probably some will be combined to the same species after he looks at them. They make my head swim!
Great set. Can I recommend you paste links in notes to tie all these mimics together ?
Dear bayucca. The 5 individuals that were photographed in the woods that day are now separated into 5 spottings, labelled Heliconid Mimicry Complex 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5. They all look alike to me.
What was your Congress about?
P.S. bayucca: Sorry the last 4 individuals don't have photos with their wings open. Still possible to separate?
