1cm. active and timid

Habitat:

found on eucalypt leaves hanging approx 1m off the ground in a yard surrounded by many yards with old trees and close to bush and salt water estuaries

That's a terrific beetle Stephen. I think it is a leaf beetle (Chrysomelidae) in the genus trachymela and probably T. sloanei. http://www.nzffa.org.nz/farm-forestry-mo...
