Pennsylvania Ambush Bug with prey (Yellowjacket)

Phymata pennsylvanica

Description:

Small, uniquely shaped bugs with grasping front legs. Able to take much larger prey as seen here. I saw the wasp and as I approached for a photo I realized that it had become dinner for this lovely Assassin Bug. Smaller male piggybacking on the female.

Habitat:

Meadow. Found on Giant Goldenrod.
