Tharpyna diademata

Tharpyna diademata

Description:

<5mm. Male. Dark spider with white markings

Habitat:

Only ever sighted on a steel powder-coated fence under overhanging eucalypts above rarely disturbed and copious lawn. The area was kept undisturbed as much as possible to allow spiders to proliferate

Notes:

This spider was only seen in one place and found from 2008 which was the year after the ranch style fences were replaced with steel panels. That change heralded the local extinction of all of the larger species while allowing the rise of many new species including this one. Attempts to identify this species in 2009 so it could be placed on the website were inconclusive so it was never added or given identity
