Greater Roadrunner

Geococcyx californianus

Description:

I found this roadrunner pecking around for insects in the early afternoon on a sunny fall day. The roadrunner was using a narrow animal path (usually used by mule deer) to make it's way across a hill side. I hid behind a shrub and got my camera ready. The roadrunners take off quickly and fast, as this one did once he saw me with my camera.
