Brazilian Salmon Pink Bird Eating Tarantula

lasiodora parahybana

Description:

Common name: Brazilian Salmon Pink Bird-eating Tarantula One of the largest in the world, often cited as the second or third largest (after the Theraphosa blondi). Leg span reaches 8-10 inches. They are popular as pets in the tarantula hobby, although not recommended for beginners. They are fast, large, and will possibly kick urticating bristles if aggravated. Not quick to bite, however, this species is considered somewhat 'handleable' in the hobby, but its fangs (in adults and sub-adults), which often reach up to one full inch, are capable of medically significant mechanical damage.

Habitat:

Originating from the east part of the Northeastern Region of Brazil. For captivity: Floor space is more important than height. A deep substrate should be provided for burrowing. A good retreat is required.

Notes:

I saw her ('coz it's a female) one time in pet shop somewhere in Manila. I tried to handle her but i allowed the pet store assistant to poke it out from it's terrarium. It was a little defensive at first but after a couple of minutes it went out. And then i tried to handle handle her carefully, I don't want to drop and hurt her. She was very gorgeous! Humungous tarantula, very nice. With a nice price as well and that's frustrating. I wasn't able to buy her that time. If you're an advance hobbyist L. Parahybana should be on your list of collection. I used to have slings though. But some hobbyist are dying to buy most of my collection every time they visit my place and i know how it feels like to have a new t..so i sold it. One nice thing about this specie is that, they are voracious eater, fast growing and they have an insatiable appetite even if they are about to molt. I hope to get one female soon.
