Emperor Gum Moth caterpillar

Opodiphthera eucalypti

Description:

A fat bright green caterpillar about 11cm long with spikey tubercles on its back. The tubercles near the head and rear end had beautiful blue tips.

Habitat:

Eucalytpus tree - ? species

Notes:

This caterpillar feeds upside down with its paler belly exposed thus making detection difficult. I walked past it a couple of times before I noticed it. The Emperor Gum Moth is a Saturnid moth
