Heliconia bihai

Description:

This species of Heliconia is an erect herb typically growing taller than 1.5 m. It is native to South America, especially Brazil and the Guianas.

Habitat:

Planted as an ornamental in a large semi-urban yard and garden in the equatorial tropics of northern New Guinea.

Notes:

A banana stalk fly is also visible in two of the photos.
