Saga of the Flag Moth - Part 4

Dysschema sp.

Description:

On 25 Dec 2012 all the larvae hung from the leaves head down, made a faint silk mat to hold onto and remained motionless, without feeding for 7 days, molting. By the 31st of December, they had finished molting, the exuviae were dropped to the floor and they resumed feeding voraciously. The lumps on the body have increased in size as well as their overall length. The first 2 pictures are newly molted larvae. The 3rd picture shows the faint silk matting the larvae produce to secure themselves to their substrate while molting. The 4th picture shows a larva in the process of removing itself from it's exuvia and the 5th picture shows the discarded skins.
