Hi Cody.conway. The Woodpecker is common in all areas of Panama.

I have found it listed as a Scarlet-crowned Woodpecker but cannot find a scientific name to go with that......http://www.galleryofbirds.com/Panama%20Apr09/Scarlet-crowned%20Woodpecker.htm

Andrés, deja este spot hasta nivel género (Melanerpes sp.). La foto no permite estar seguro de la especie y el resto es especulación

To my knowledge Melanerpes carolinus is not extending into Panama, but mostly US and southern not extending Florida. This looks like being Melanerpes hoffmannii (mostly seen in Costa Rica and Nicaragua, but there are reports from Panama) or Melanerpes rubricapillus. Do you have another shot where we can see more of the head and neck?
