Bahia Grass

Description:

Family: Poaceae ( includes all the grasses, including grains ). The flowers of Bahia grass, are specialized for pollination, by the wind. The feathery, Christmas tree-like stigmas, stand upright, while the pendant stamens, dangle below. Bahia grass seed head: The purple anthers, can be observed covering each raceme. Bahia grass, has a Y-shaped seed head. Paspalum notatum, known commonly as Bahia grass, common bahia, and Pensacola bahia, is a tropical to subtropical perennial grass ( family Poaceae ). The tiny, black, featherlike stigmas and black stamens, can be seen dangling at the tips of the flowers. Bahia grass, is a warm-season species, that spreads by rhizomes, and is easily recognized, by its characteristic " Y-shaped " seedhead. Bahia grass, is a warm-season perennial grass. Bahia grass, is grown throughout Florida, and in the Coastal Plain and Gulf Coast regions, of the southern United States. The stalk of Bahia Grass, was a yellow green color.

Habitat:

Bahia grass seed, is used for lawn, pasture, forage, and turf grass. Also, along highways.

Notes:

I went into the woods, looking for insects, flowers, plants, and animals to photograph. After exploring for a while, I came upon a small field, that was covered with different types of grasses and flowers. I looked up some of the grasses that were in one of my nature books. One of the grasses that was in this field, was Bahia grass. The stalk of this grass, was a yellow green color. This grass, had a Y-shaped seed head. The tiny, black, featherlike stigmas and black stamens, can be seen dangling, at the tips of the flowers.
