Whimbrel

Numenius phaeopus

Description:

The Whimbrel can easily be confused with the curlew (atleast as far as I am concerned) however it is slightly smaller than the Eurasian Curlew (see my previous spotting) and has two dark stripes on the crown and a more kinked (rather than smoothly curved) beak.

Notes:

I am new to wading bird ID so if I am wrong on this one let me know. Unlike the Curlew, the Whimbrel is classified as Least Concern. It is also a widely distributed wader that undertakes annual migration.
