Pteroglossus erythropygius
this bird was spotted at Sachatamia lodge coming in for the beetles in the morning. This aracari has one of the longest beaks, not comparing to bigger Toucans though. The Pale-mandibled Aracari is like any other aracari, small, medium-large beak, and very lightweight. They also make very exellent pets, they prefer fruits with less citric acid, like oranges, or pomogranates. Blueberries and rasberries, along with strawberries, and other non-acidic jungle fruits are the choice for these aracaries

Oh no! So sorry, but your other birds are fantastic. Where is your next adventure. I have never been to South or Central America before. The butterflies, insects and birds have such amazing colors.
thanks so much Carol, I got lucky and unlucky...I lost a thumb drive while called to be checked by secuirty police. the thumb drive contained torrent duck(papa with baby), a pair of rufous bellied seedsnipe from 14000ft, masked trogon, and a rufous antipitta...bummer!!
Susan, what a great trip you had in Ecuador. Your bird spots are fantastic. This is one of my favorites. Great job!
Beautiful aracari and picture Susan =)
Wow! , so gorgeous!
Lovely shot Susan!
Dan...it is a 300/F4 (non zoom)
Dan, I could only packed a 300mm...otherwise I would like to bring the 500mm...just could not do hand held(too heavy for my litttle hands) I do plan to buy a 1.4 teleconverter which will give me more lens for the future
You have a steady hand then. Good news for me too, that's the extant of my zoom as well and I can see great quality is possible with it even at its max. Is it a prime lens?
thanks Dan...I was in Ecuador recently and I was using a Nikkor 300mm len hand held.
Poor insect! How did you get all these great recent bird shots? What lens are you using?
