Red-tailed Hawk

Description:

A fairly large hawk of some kind, I believe...

Habitat:

Along Highway 210, on power lines and poles,just outside of town

Notes:

Appeared to either be looking for roadkill or for rodents and birds in the grasslands near it

Yes...I was birding at Hawk Mountain, not far from my home here in Pa. when I first heard it mentioned.

JamesFunk-Thank you! Belly band? Do you mean the darker feathers in the otherwise white chest area? I knew to look for size and tail color, markings or tail-tip shape but had never heard of the belly band before. :-)

Red-tailed Hawk...Photo of Hawk taking flight gives you the best look at ID markings...belly band is a good marking to look for along with tail...Great Photos!
