Larus argentatus
Very common gull in Portugal and around the world.
Beaches
Hi Filipe, thank you for adding this to my mission. As Herring Gulls are quite rare in Portugal I checked this and it is actually the much more common Yellow-legged Gull. The two were split into separate species many years ago following DNA evidence. Obviously some older books will not be correct any more and perhaps many web-sites are incorrect also. One of the main visible differences is that the Herring Gull has pink legs while the first one, as its name implies, has yellow legs. The other I cannot see but it is almost certainly the same. I would be grateful if you would correct this one.
