A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
Delias rosenbergi
About 7 cm long
Resort garden with plenty of water.
It is in Sulawesi Island of Indonesia and almost at the tip of the northern arm of the island. It separated by Sea and islands with the Mindanao of the Philippines. The photograph is taken in Tomohon City, about 600 m above sea level.
You're welcome Dave! By the way JohnTasirin, these are gorgeous shots. Good luck with the Sulawesi missions!
Thanks Martin and bayucca! What's really great is to have an entire site dedicated to Delias butterflies! Wouldn't it be great if this was the case for every genus? :-)
Good job, Daniele, you definitely nailed it. I wasn't sure about the different subspecies of the whole Indonesian archpelago. I think I have once to dive into all these islands...
Hello everyone! I've made a suggestion based on the assumption that the Sulawesi location is correct. Delias rosenbergi is in the hyparete group.

I agree it looks close to Delias hyparete http://fire.deviantart.com/art/Delias-hy...
I am pretty sure it is Delias hyparete. Can you tell me a little bit more of the exact location where you found it. I am not familiar with the region. Is it Sulawesi? Give me some other names, please. Provinces or counties?
Yeah. I was lucky. I too love the background. The reddish background is plank of a gutter. I wish I had a better aperture to increase the sharpness of the lower wings.
subspecies of Delias hyparete ??

I have just been researching a very similar butterfly for two hours. It is either delias or prioneris, which is a delias mimic. I am leaning towards the mimic, what do you think?
