Harris's Hawk

Parabuteo unicinctus

Habitat:

In the US, arid scrub and desert southwest suburbs. Also mountains and deciduous forests of central and south America.

Notes:

I was very happy to spot this gorgeous hawk right behind my hotel one afternoon. It landed on the trees in pic one when I first saw it, then it flew up to a nearby light pole (pic 2) from there it started soaring in great big circles over head.
