Cicada Exoskeleton

Cicadinae sp?

Description:

split insect shell stuck on the bark of a tree.

Habitat:

Along the trail between the Grand Staircase and the Golden Staircase, Katoomba, Blue Mtns, NSW. At first I was worried this was going to fly away before I could get a photo and then I realized it was just left behind by a creature and not a living creature. Cool!

Wiki says that in Australia there are 200 species of cicada in 38 genera, so will have to be content with Cicadinae sp.

Thanks Lenny. The images on Google for Cicada exoskeleton are so interesting and some of them are very close to my spotting.
