Golden-fronted Woodpecker

Melanerpes aurifrons

Description:

They have a black and white streaked back, with a gray belly and head. Both sexes have a golden patch on the back of their head and at the top of their bill, and the males also have a bright red patch on the top of their head.

Habitat:

They are found in Texas and Oklahoma, then south to Mexico and Central America. They prefer oak, mesquite, and pecan trees.

In Palo Duro Canyon State Park.
