Description:

This is North America's most widespred turtle. 4-10 inches. Low oval upper shell smooth and unkeeled, olive green to black, marginal plates accented by red bars or crescents. Lower shell light yellow to deep red, plain or intricately patterned. Yellow and red stripes on head and legs.

Habitat:

Ponds, Lakes, slow moving streams. weedy shallows of rivers. Muddy bottoms of ponds. Basking on logs.
