Red Mapwing

Hypanartia kefersteini

Description:

This is the Red Mapwing. I only got a single picture before it flew. Family Nymphalidae. See the references for pictures of the underwings and larva. This is also called the Cinderella Admiral in South America. The page for "Butterflies of America" calls the Hypanartia "kefersteini of Mexico" Hypanartia trimaculata autumna, so I am not quite sure what I should put for this species. (http://butterfliesofamerica.com/t/Hypana...)

Habitat:

Landing on leaves in the Edward James Surrealism Park, Las Pozas, Xilitla, San Luis Potosí.

Thank you Ashley, I started there and couldn't find any Polygonia with white spots. I did finally find it and I thank you for putting me to work!
