Heteronympha merope

Description:

an attractive yellowish-brown butterfly with a wingspan of 70mm. Half of the upper side of the each fore wing was a deep brown with three pale cream patches and blue-centred ocellus at the apex. Hind wings had similar but smaller ocelli at the tornus. The undersides of the wings were a pale grey with brown markings.

Habitat:

spotted on a grassy verge. These butterflies are seen everywhere this time of the year. The caterpillars feed on various species of grass

Notes:

The male this species of can be seen here - spotted last year: http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/804... Although common, they are quite attractive close-up. This is from the Family Nymphalidae
