Butcherbird

Cracticus sp.

Notes:

Seen on our backyard fence early one morning. I'm not sure whether this is a juvenile Pied Butcherbird (C. nigrogularis) or a juvenile or female Grey Butcherbird (C. torquatus). Despite their cute appearance, butcherbirds are fierce predators, preying on small animals, including birds, lizards and insects, as well as some fruits and seeds. Uneaten food may be stored in the fork or a branch or impaled.
