Description:

This wasp was very delicate looking while flying. It's very long and narrow with black and gray coloring. It has a very thin "waist" and neck as well as a long, red-striped abdomen. This one has a long ovipositor. Eyes are very red! The rear legs have a leaf-footed appearance. "Gasteruption have a characteristic hovering flight with the swollen metatibiae hanging down so that the insect resembles a helicopter carrying a large load on a cable."

Habitat:

Buckwheat in chaparral.

Hi Sckel, yes these flowers are some of the few in bloom right now in the chaparral and are very attractive to bugs!
