Neoptochus adspersus
This partridge pea was covered in weevils, most of them mating, as were some of the other partridge pea plants around it. Most of them are white, but as you can see in the last photo, some of them have lost their scales and are more brown than white. The video field isn't working, so here it is: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yMGXIasU...

Thanks Rosa!
They are so cute! Great pictures and info.
Oh dear... didn't look that far. I'll have to remove all my spottings then !! Wish people would put the country.
Thanks Machi...
I love weevils !
Thanks for the great info Lauren! And pamsai, thank you for the suggestion. I looked at the mission and it appears that the range is just for Spain though...
I'm not sure that you are aware that there is a mission just for weevils. It might be nice to include this beautiful spotting there...

Very interesting Lauren... thank you.
Very nice series! By the way, the brown patches are where the original pale scales have fallen off. Weevils lose scales as they age and/or get battered and the underlying tegument is darker. The ones with small brown patches have just lost a few. The one practically all brown has lost just about all his scales.
