Diloboderus abderus beetle

Diloboderus abderus

Description:

The beetle - "cascarudo" or "bicho torito", as we call them - walked fast and energetically all over the place; it even climbed walls which called my attention deriving in a short video trying to record it. I then placed a plastic beetle next to it to see what it would do and it stayed completely still for a minute or so and then started walking once more passing over one of the plastic legs of the unreal plastic fake beetle. This one is a female Diloboderus abderus (Sturm, 1826) because the male is lighter and has a horn on its head (See one in: http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/175... ) . Females may fly but this one preferred climbing.

Habitat:

It can commonly be seen in Uruguay, Argentina and southern Brazil.
