Horned Lark (Male)

Description:

Unlike most other larks, this is a distinctive-looking species on the ground, mainly brown-grey above and pale below, with a striking black and yellow face pattern.

Habitat:

This was one of about a dozen Horned Larks in a snow-covered farm field.

Notes:

Horned Larks are the only native lark in North America and can be found year-round in southern Michigan prairies, fields, airports, and lake shores.
