Cooper's Hawk (Immature)

Accipiter cooperii

Description:

14-20" (36-51 cm). W. 28" (71 cm). A crow-sized hawk, with long tail and short rounded wings. Adult slat- gray above, with dark cap, and finely rust-barred below. Immature brown above, whitish below with fine streaks. Tail tip rounded, not squared off.

Habitat:

Deciduous and, less often, coniferous forests, especially those interrupted by meadows or clearings. May hunt near bird feeders in residential areas.

Notes:

Looked out my bedroom window into the neighbors yard where she has here bird feeders and saw him fly up into my other neighbors tree. I see this guy all the time, I've witnessed him hunt and I'm starting to notice him maturing. I can't wait for him to develop.
