Passerina ciris
Often considered one of the prettiest birds in the US, the male painted buntings are certainly lookers! Red chest, blue head, and yellow and green back. Though they are very common throughout their range, they are always a treat to see :)
Campground in Palo Duro Canyon SP. Along a creek with a lot of junipers and cottonwoods.

Lovely spotting. I had always wanted to see one and got my chance a few months back near my house...two males and a female. In nearly 15 years I never saw one. Very exciting to see them. Congrats!
Wonderful coloration. I have only ever spotted one male of this species. Took my breath away. Great spotting Ashley!
Any colour that is NOT represented???!!!! Thanks Ashley...this is a new one for me and I am just gobsmacked...such a colourful bird.
Could have only happened with your paint colors, Sergio ;)
