Northern Saw-whet Owl

Aegolius acadicus

Notes:

I was out in the woods looking for insects to photograph and only had my 100mm macro lens on the camera, when I heard a bunch of small birds making a racket. I investigated and saw the owl 15' up in a tree and I managed to get usable pictures even with the macro lens.

At least this time I got a half way decent picture. One other time I was shooting with my 100mm macro, a bobcat was taking its time walking across a railroad track 30 yards from me and the pictures were horrible!

Of course, their well being always comes first :)

And that sounds great, I just need to find one! Their winter range is a few hours North of me, but their year round range is a few hours west of me, that one might be easier. If I find one and get pictures up on here, will definitely let you know!

These little owls are great. They stay put and won't move unless you're almost touching them. But don't worry, I like getting good pictures, but the well being of the wildlife is more important.
