Vanellus chilensis
The Southern Lapwing is always the first to raise the alarm when an intruder invades their domain. It is a quarrelsome bird that causes brawl with any other inhabitant of the same species meadow. This characteristic makes of Southern Lapwing an excellent "watchdog", being used by some companies that have their industrial park inhabited by the species.
Occurs in Central America to Tierra del Fuego and throughout Brazil. He lives in marshes and grasslands; seen on roads, often away water.
In Spring, the female deposits typically three to four eggs. Esgravatada nest in a cavity in the ground. When adults are amazed nest pretends to be injured in order to divert the enemy away, the male becomes aggressive even a man.
