Lesser Crested Tern

Thalasseus bengalensis

Description:

There are several tern species kicking about so it can get confusing to identify them. These however, are Lesser Crested Terns. Common in the Persian Gulf. They can be identified by their black crest, which turns white at the forehead during winter (some in the image still have the winter plumage). Aside from the black crest or crown, this medium sized tern has dark grey wings, black feed and an orange/yellow beak.
