Honey Bee

Apis melifera

Description:

The first picture was taken in the morning when there are bees all around the margins. The frog does not appear to be concerned.
The others were at sunset, the water is extremely shallow and the marging too muddy to venture on, just a few mm deep and the bees appear to be swimming and diving below the surface. This happens every evening around sunset.
At home I have seen wasps doing this on the garden pond but they always seem to fly off in the end.

Habitat:

Mountain airfield at 1100 metres asl, grass with scattered shrubs and bushes and a pond which often dries out in summer. Often used for grazing sheep.
